Ants in my pants!

Okay, so the title of this email might be a little strange but I couldnt help it. No matter how much bleach I use. No matter how much I sweep, here in ecuador THERE IS ALWAYS ANTS! Ants in my food, ants in my clothes, ants in my bed! Haha, always. Its okay, I will probably miss them when I get home... maybe.. haha

So this week I went to the temple with the sister that has been a little sick. She did baptismal work for her grandparents! It was a cool expirience. She wasnt doing to well so we had to sleep in the mission presidents house... and let me tell ya it was one of the coolest yet strangest expiriences of my entire life haha!! Not every missionary gets to eat breakfast with the mission president, haha. We went to guayaquil wednesday night, slept in the temple housing, thursday morning I had my last leadership meeting. It was hard to accept that it would be my last one. Here in this mission at the end of every official meeting we sing the missions hymn and this time I couldnt help but cry while we sang it. I love being a missionary so much, and time is just the worst enemy. Thursday at about 4 in the afternoon we went to the mission house and just hung out with the mission presidents wife. She made us chocolate chip cookies. We watched a church movie, it was so strange to be in a normal house. And even MORE strange to felt taken care of.... haha if that sounds weird lol I dont know, like.... someone made us cookies! haha... It was a fun expirience! It made me miss my mama. Haha

I cant believe how much time has gone by I know that when I go home I will be leaving a part of me here. Its a strange mixture of feelings but I know that I will be okay.

This week we had an entire FAMILY come to church, we hardly had any time to work but a whole entire family was able to come with us to church. I was so happy to see them there! I know God is mindful of each one of us. This week I will still be in and out of the house with this Sister but I know that I will do my best to keep the work moving forward!

See ya soon!

Happy Halloween!

Well... its halloween again.. what? I feel like yesterday I carved a watermelon with Sister Zarate! And now its halloween again! They dont celebrate halloween here... booo hoooo. haha Its okay, im already planning my costume heh heh heh heh its a surprise.

So good news this week? Im not sick any more! YAY! I heard you guys got my flight itinarary (i cant spell in english)? Haha are you kidding me! AJSLGDHLAIS AAAAAAAAAAAH respira respira... todo esta bien. Im actually super nerviosa para terminar la mision. I feel like I have so much to tell you guys but Im drawing a blank.... ummmmmm

They asked me to sing in the christmas conference again! So that will be fun, its in the end of november. Que mas? This week was actually super hard. This sector just in general is really hard, haha its a lot of businesses and a lot of old people that "were born in this religion and plan on dieing in this religion" hahaha... im not gonna say cual.

But thats okay it just forces me to focus more and to work even harder. We are trying our best to find people to teach. We have been working a lot with less active members too. Yesterday 5 less active members came to church :) So, for me, that is success :) haha

Im excited to see you guys but I really, REALLY, REAAALLLY am having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that my mission is coming to an end. On one hand I feel like ive been here forever, but on the other hand I feel like I just got here.

I just have really confusing feelings. haha

I love you all, hope you have a happy halloween! Dont forget to send me pictures of the pumpkins and costumes! Love you all.

Capacitacion!

Greetings earthlings!
ha ha, well... if you haven't noticed today is Tuesday! Yesterday was a leadership meeting literally all day so no P day for me.. but whatever ha ha I like the meetings. I'm a mission nerd ha-ha. and today I gave a training seminar on obedience and mission rules, ha ha it was epic but I was super nervous ha-ha
I loved conference! It was so cool to see the new apostles, we weren't able to bring anyone to conference though. We are passing through hard times here in the sector and we don't really have anything good going for us. But we are trying our hardest to keep a positive attitude.
HEY OH MY GOSH I ALMOST FORGOT! The weirdest thing has happened! The other day there we were when all of the sudden a 48 year old women went walking past us in the street BUTT NAKED! oh my gosh menos mal that we were sisters and not elders but I guess I had a horrific look on my face because my companion looked at me and said sister miller... are you okay??? Because she didn't see her at first. Hahahahahaha ew ew ew...... I need to be brain washed to get the picture out of my brain-
any whoo im now in trio... i don't have one companion I have TWO ha-ha Sister Rojas from Peru and Sister Espinoza from Chile still. So that's fun, we´ll see how this goes it should be interesting lol
I love you guys! Behave yourselves.
Love, Hna Miller.

La Paz 2

Well, Here I am in La Paz Portoviejo!

Wanna know something funny?... Cameron is in Chile, and has a companion from Ecuador.... I'm in Ecuador, and my companion is from Chile! haha Interesante!

This sector is actually super different. Its super commercial. Alot of businesses, and shops, and stores... and not much else. Its actually super hard. Satan has been hardening the hearts of these people for a while. Haha... lets just say we have had a lot of doors slammed in our face this week. Yesterday I was actually feeling super bummed. We had talked to what felt like 100 people and only 3 people were somewhat receptive. Yesterday, after even plan Z fell through, I was determined to have success so I marched right up to a door and knocked, out came a super religious man telling me just how wrong I was and how LITTLE he wanted to hear from us. I could feel hot tears burning in my eyes as he told us to go away. We had nothing else.. and we still had a couple more hours until we went home. Me and my companion, with all the frustration and tiredness we had, went and hid behind a semi truck to say a prayer... Asking God to guide us to someone that would receive us. We said Amen and started walking. We walked past a bunch of houses that we had never seen before until we found a weird ally way full of houses. The house on the very end had a light on, we went, knocked, and a girl of about 14 aƱos answered and called her mom. The first thing that came out of the moms mouth was "Pasen." We walked in sat down, and taught her about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. She had listened to missionaries before, a really long time ago! She even gave us food! haha... It was God´s way of humbling us, and showing us just how much He loves us... even if we have a long day.

I love you guys! and cant believe I am training again, haha Her name is Hermana Espinoza, and she is from Chile. She is super nice, shy, reserved... and she knows a lot about the scriptures! So that's cool!

Its weird just how different every companion is!

Love you all! Miss you all! See you next week!

I am training!!!!!! GGGGGGAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

So! Its official! I am a mom! hahaha
My new companions name is Sister Moya, she is from Arizona and her parents are from Mexico. So the good news? SHE ALREADY KNOWS SPANISH! haha I dont have to teach her spanish! haha she is my very first gringa companion. Its really weird speaking English to someone.
We couldnt be anymore different her and I, but for some reason she looks up to me. Haha! She likes to study korean, she has been a member her whole life, she loves dragon ball-Z, She has never lived a way from home. But she is super nice, and really wants to help. She is doing really good!
Trainging is such a weird expirience because it makes me think back to when I started the mission...more than a year ago! It really made me realize just how much I have changed. Im not even a shadow of the person I was. Or at least thats how I feel- The truth is.. when I started my mission I didnt think I could do it. I would look at the little time I had been there and alllllllllllll the time that I had left.. and I felt like giving up a lot. But now Im here. God does miracles through me everyday! Being a trainer helps me see all the stuff that has happened... and the way that God has molded ME and changed ME. In the scriptures when it talks about (i totally cant say it in english... haha but in spanish si!!) but it says something along the lines of how great would your joy be if you brought but one soul unto me. That soul was mine! And let me tell ya! The joy is great! and then it goes on to say and how great would your joy be if you bring more souls unto me?? Its a feeling I cant ever describe without getting all teary and mushy hahaha.... I love this gospel so much, and I know that this is Gods work!
The reason I couldnt write yesterday (and im writing right now) is because I was in a meeting for the leaders in the mission allllllllllllllll day long. We had to spend the night in guayaquil and everything. But it was a super cool expirience because I got to sleep in the portete house.. and just so if you dont remember Portete was my first sector here in the mission. When me and my companion got out of the taxi I was taking out my luggage when I heard a little voice say "Hermana Miller...?" I turned around and just started crying! haha (i know im a baby) But it was ALEXANDER!!!! my very first baptism! Hermana Lyda (his grandma that also got baptized with him) came out and hugged me! I couldnt believe that the still remembered me.. my name and everything! and recognized me too!
I love these people so much! They have changed my life forever.
I love you all and miss you so much!
Saludos de ecuador!
Besitos!

Hello Columbia!

Well this week was...... really long to be honest haha
The two baptismal dates that we had fell through and it really sucks. Miguel didnt show up to church and he like.. disapeared haha his family talks really bad about the church and so he doesnt really know what to do because he wants to get baptized. And Francisco moved :( his wife lives like 6 hours away and she has been really sick. He was just gonna go visit her to see if she was alright but then like one day later he came back, gathered all of his stuff and decided that he was gonna go live there and stay there. So that sucks, the good news though is that him and his wife are gonna get baptized, just not here with us... So kind of mixed feelings haha.

How are things on your end?? Lol Gloria, Danners mom is gonna make me a dress! Wohoo! haha so that is really exciting. She is really good at sewing.

OH YEAH I ALMOST FORGOT! They almost kicked me out of Ecuador (haha okay.. thats an exaggeration) but so like I told you guys last week I had to renew my visa... we drove 2 hours to guyaquil signed like 2 or 3 papers took our picture (we were there like 10 mintues) and then drove 2 hours home.. haha talk about frustrating. But turns out they changed the format and so if the office elders didnt change our documents and stuff in time they were gonna send us to columbia haha. The next day we had to travel AGAIN at like 6 in the morning to go to guayaquil and sign other papers! haha but this time wasnt AS frustrating because I was able to have an interview with my mission president despues and he is so cool. Haha So i have had to use quite a bit of money this week in travels (SORRY) but the office will re-emburse (i cant spell) haha

I spent those two days traveling with Hermana Hobbs because she had to renew her stuff too. It was so much fun!

I love and miss you guys so much! Pretty soon here I will have 14 months! YIKES.

Hee Hee...Oops!

Well- Haha..... This week was interesting. So my hair is getting so long to the point where I didnt even have bangs any more... annnnnnd I didnt wanna go to a hair salon. So what did I do?? I bought scissors for 40 cents (the kind that they use in elementary school) ... annnnnd I went in the bathroom before bed..... and I cut myself some new bangs! And what did I learn? Just because some one in your family is a hair stylist doesnt mean I was born with the same gift. Haha they are hideous! lop-sided! and just.. bad hahaha muy muuuuy mal. So after a good laugh I decided that I am going to a hair salon today to cut my hair and have them fixed in the first time in almost 8 or 9 months! haha

Wish me luck! and no I will not send you pictures of my ugly bangs- haha

This week, no one came to church and it was actually a little sad because tons of people told us they would and we woke up extra early to go and wake people up (hehe) but, God has His reasons I guess.

The family that we found told us en una manera muy directa that they didnt want to go to church again, that they dont wanna listen to our message and that they wont be coming back. It just broke my heart. I know that agency is part of Gods plan... but still it sucks sometimes.

This week NO ONE WAS HOME haha school started last week so everyone is way busy we just walk and walk and walk from house to house to house and no one had time this week.

BUT when one door closes, another opens... and when THAT door closes.. God opens a window. We found a little old couple that are SO cute and just SO perfect.. and I know that they are gonna progress :) I can already see them in the temple!

I love you guys, hope you all had a good week! Stay safe!... and read your scriptures danggit! Lol

Farewell Talk

Today was the day that I delivered my farewell talk! I cant believe it! I leave here so soon but feel like I have so much left to do! I love you all and please know you will be greatly missed.

I remember a few short months ago when I first opened my mission call thinking “Really? I have to wait 73 whole days to go on my mission!?” Now, with only a little over a week left I can’t seem to wrap my head around the idea of how fast time has gone by. Packing, shopping, and more packing went by and now I’m up here delivering my farewell talk. The decision to serve a mission for me was not an easy one, it wasn't something I woke up to one morning, and it wasn't something that I've dreamt of since I was a little girl. I remember hearing the mission age change thinking “Oh my gosh that’s so great- for the other girls. That is so cool- for the other girls who plan on serving missions.” But as time went by random thoughts kept entering my mind, “I’m gonna serve a mission.” Then I’d brush it to the side not thinking anything of it. Again “I’m gonna serve a mission.” I wouldn't even pray about it, because I was scared I already knew the answer. It wasn't in my plans.
The thoughts happened more and more and more so I finally gave in and prayed about it, I prayed harder than I ever thought I could. And you know what I learned? God’s plans aren't always the same as my plans. And since then I've learned that same principle again and again. The idea of a mission grew on me. I became more and more sure that it was the right thing to do and I became more and more excited about it. I knew that somewhere in this big scary world, someone needed me. Little blonde Megan, from Lakeville. Someone in this world was praying to God for what? help, comfort, and guidance? Cure to addiction? An end to loneliness? I don’t know. All I know is that by giving myself to the Lord for a small time, I could just be the answer to what someone is praying for.
Throughout his years as our prophet, President Monson has encouraged us as members to “Reach out to Rescue” Not only as missionaries but as church members, neighbors, friends, associates, families, and in all other aspects of our lives. He goes on explaining ways to do this such as service to others, inviting people to church, standing as an example, sharing your beliefs and many more. We can rescue friends of different faiths, members who have fallen away, and we can even help the friends and loved ones who have passed on through temple work. It’s a scary thing putting yourself out there. Risking embarrassment, rejection, ridicule, the list goes on and on. But just think how grateful that person will be when they come back to church after years being inactive and realizing how much they've missed it, or how about when your friend comes to church for the first time and feels a happiness and peace she’s never felt before, or even when your ancestors finally receive the blessings of the temple after years and years of waiting in anticipation. “And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father! And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!” (D&C 18:15-16)
As my mission has drawn closer I've received a few emails from my mission president in Guayaquil Ecuador. One email he sent talked about “Our Mission” and the people of Guayaquil. He states  “too many of them have fallen away over the years, and so besides the great work of finding, teaching, and baptizing our Father’s children, we have the great opportunity to work alongside Him in finding and rescuing His lost sheep.” After reading that I realized something, I realized that the people in Guayaquil, thousands of miles away, in a different country, speaking a different language, have something in common with us. We all need help. We all need someone to reach out and rescue us. The people of Ecuador need someone to stop by and see how they are doing, invite them to come back to church, just like the people of Lakeville.
The idea of “Reaching out to rescue” will be present for me in many ways for the next 18 months. The first thing that comes to mind will be as I learn the Spanish language. My Companion will be rescuing me a lot, I am sure. Another one that comes to mind will be as I enter the MTC in Mexico, the support and prayers from my family and loved ones will rescue me as well as strengthen me. Lastly, as I lay in bed at night tired and discouraged thinking, what in the world am I doing here? Am I good enough to be here? My Savior, the only one who will know exactly how I am feeling, will reach out his loving marked hands and rescue me, little blonde Megan from Lakeville.
When we reach out to others, we can in part become a little more like our Savior. Offering a relief that only His gospel can give. By putting our imperfect selves out there, offering a perfect gospel, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will make up the rest. Even if the person we help is just a little “so-and so” from Lakeville, or Guayaquil, or anywhere else in the World they deserve a chance to be rescued. It’s just our job to offer it. “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (D&C 18:10)
My life has changed so much in the past couple years. I felt like someone has just hit the fast forward button and forgotten to press play again. I graduated, went to BYU in Provo, went to BYU in Idaho, my sister got married, I received a mission call, I have friends serving missions, getting engaged, perusing degrees and facing all kinds of “Grown-up” decisions and trials. I know that some of you younger kids are sitting in the pews eating cheerios and coloring and can’t quite yet think of such things. But they come, and sometimes it’s hard. I know some of you older folks in the chapel are thinking “Wow, I remember when I was that young. And I remember thinking that stuff was hard. It came and went, and it was hard but you face even harder things.” We all go through tough things in our lives, whether it be as a young kid feeling like you don’t have friends, a teenager who hangs with the wrong crowd, a young adult trying to face the world, or a grown up trying to raise and provide for a family. We all could use a little rescuing. We all need to be like our Savior and listen to our prophet’s call to reach out and rescue. And times will come where we are looking for someone to reach out and praying to God for an answer… and wondering to ourselves. “What in the World am I doing here, Lord, help me be good enough.” and we will feel like there is no answer. But be patient, the Lord hears your prayers. He sent a savior to this earth before we were even born to answer our prayers, to comfort us, to cleanse us, to guide us, and to rescue us.
President Monson continues his address saying “In this remarkable dispensation of the fullness of times, our opportunities to serve one another are limitless. We’re surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our comfort, our support, our kindness—[…] As we serve our fellowman, we serve the Lord. “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these …, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40). May we ever be found performing such service.” He goes on explaining not only are we helping others by doing this but helping ourselves and receiving blessings from the Lord.
I know that President Monson is a Prophet of God, given to us for instruction and guidance in these latter-days. I know that his message to reach out to rescue is God sent. And by doing so we are becoming more like our Savior. A couple months ago I came across something in the ensign. To which sadly I couldn't find the direct quote for, but it said something along the lines of in a world where such sorrow and hurt are present its easy to become discourage and afraid. But we already know who wins the fight. We already know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, we know that God’s goodness beats evil in the end, it’s all just a matter of choosing which side we are on on. President Monson finishes his statement by saying “As we now go forward, may we follow His example. He left His footprints in the sands of the seashore, but He left His teaching principles in the hearts and in the lives of all whom He taught. He instructed His disciples, and to us He speaks the same words, “Follow thou me” (John 21:22). May we ever be found doing so.”

I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve. I know that this truly is Christ’s church. I know that Christ lives and his gospel still lives on this earth because of the effort and faith of Joseph Smith. I know that he was a prophet of God sent to deliver us the Book of Mormon. I know that all the lessons in church, early mornings in seminary, institute classes, and prayers from family and leaders have all pointed me here. They brought me here so that I could worthily go through the temple and that I can stand here today and thank you for supporting me as a missionary. I felt like the Grinch from Dr. Seuss’s “The Grinch who stole Christmas” because when I opened my mission call my heart grew three sizes that day. I love people I have never met, and who I’m going to struggle to communicate with for quite some time. I know with the Lord’s help all things are made possible and I know I am in good hands. I love you all so much. You will be greatly missed. I am grateful for my family and friends. They have given me so much and still give every day. I’m going to miss them dearly. But know that the Lord needs me, and I am just answering his call. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Mission Photos

My lovely Mother was awesome enough to take some pictures of me before I leave here on my mission! It was so much fun and they turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself. Here they are!
